COVID Update: 27th February 2021

On 22nd February the Government set out its road map for bringing the country and the economy out of the COVID crisis. We've digested how this affects what we do - and our responsibilities to customers and staff - and updated our advice for customers. You can read that here.

Our priority as a business is to keep customers and staff safe and to abide by the fact and spirit of the new road map. Our approach is careful and cautious.

April 12th: Limited Re-Opening

The road map makes it clear that what we can't begin reopening until 'Step 2' of the road map, which is anticipated for 12th April. This allows groups of six and up to two households to meet outside and for outdoor attractions to reopen.

We believe that it would not be in line with the guidance for us to fully reopen at this point. This is because our Road Trips require mixing of more than two households and our experiences take place inside cars, which are used by several people during the day. It also limits how we run our 60 minute Classic Tasters because there can be no gathering of customers in groups. This can happen at busy times for our Tasters.

But we do think the April 12th Step 2 allows us to partially reopen. Therefore, from 12th April if you already have a Classic Taster booked, we'll honour it. But we may ask you to adjust your collection time so that we can avoid groups gathering. We also ask that you only arrive 15 minutes before your time slot - and no earlier please.

We are not accepting new Classic Taster bookings during Step 2. But you can book your experience from Step 3 on May 17th.

We will also be running a normal service for our traditional classic car Daily Hire from this date.

If you are booked on a Road Trip before the introduction of road map Step 3 (May 17th) we will contact you to rearrange your experience.

Where we are running your experience, we will still ask you to comply with our COVID guidance, which you will have been sent with your original booking.

If we are able to run your experience during Step 2 but you feel uncomfortable about having it, please contact us at least 3 days beforehand. We will rearrange it for you free of charge. We want everyone to enjoy their experience.

May 17th: Full Re-Opening

Step 3 of the Government's road map allows up to 30 people to mix outdoors and hotels & B&Bs to reopen. We consider this is the right time for us to fully reopen. From Monday May 17th we will be fully operating our full range of 60 Minute Classic Taster, Road Trips and Daily Hire experiences.

Step 3 is also the point at which cafes and pubs can reopen for indoor use (outdoor is available at Step 2). This means we can run our full day and half day Road Trips without restrictions on refreshments and dining.

What This Means For You

If you have an experience booked that is affected by the road map Steps, we'll contact you to rearrange it. If we can run your experience but you would prefer to rearrange it, please contact us now on 01527 893733 or email info@greatdrivingdays.co.uk.

If you have a been waiting to book your experience until the Government guidance becomes clearer, we strongly recommend you book a date now. Since the Government made its announcement on 22nd February our bookings have increased by 400%. For 2021 we are unavoidably operating a shorter season; although we have added more dates to meet demand, we expect demand for available spaces to be very high as customers redeem vouchers extended since the original lockdown in March 2020.

Above all, we want you to get the experience you booked when you want it. And we really want you to enjoy it, free of constraints and worry.

One Final Thing...

The Government road map provides for each step to be implemented by the dates mentioned above at the earliest. As they've made clear, they reserve the right to change the dates if the data requires it. Therefore it is possible these dates may change, which may affect your experience date. But the principle set out above, to partially reopen at Stage 2 (April 12th) and fully at Stage 3 (May 17th) remains our plan.

Keeping You Safe

Our classic car experiences are generally more COVID secure than most driving experiences because you do not share the car with an instructor or, in fact, anyone who is not from your household or bubble.

But by its nature you will be driving a car that someone else has driven recently. As we have done since the lockdown was eased last summer, we have a rigorous cleaning and hygiene regime that minimises your risk when you drive our cars. It is sufficiently comprehensive that it has been awarded the hospitality industry's Good To Go standard, which establishes the benchmark for COVID hygiene procedures.

Our COVID response unfortunately means that as a customer we have to ask you to abide by certain rules. We send you this guidance when you book your car.
